Welcome to our latest list of Lots and Collections. It has again been fun to prepare from the vast amount of Line-Engraved issues we have purchased in recent years. Sometimes these have come with other interesting material, such as Surface Printed and Edward VII up to QE II some of which have found their way on to this list. We recently completed the series of Dr Ken Statham's The Essential Guide to the Great
Britain Line Engraved 1d and 2d Stars 1840-1864 with the publication of
Volume 18, 2d Stars Plates 1 to 6.
For quite some time we have been unable to supply Volume 2 (the 1d
Black) and Volumes 3 &4 (covering the 1d Red Plates 12 to 56) unless we
could find suitable second hand copies.
We also have a limited number of 5 & 6 but sufficient for us to
decide to reprint Volume 2, 3 & 4, from the original printing
plates. As a result, we will shortly
be able to offer a very limited number of full sets (Volumes 1 to 18) at £950, with the ability to spread
the payments over up to 10 months.
In addition, for orders before 31 March 2008, we will include a £50 voucher towards a stamp purchase from either this
list, our main individual items list.
We have included a "what is still available" from our main
list and look forward to hearing from you if you would like a set of this
exceptional publication. Ken plated a huge
amount of Line-Engraved for us and he continues to be referred to throughout
our stock and lists. We are sure you
will find this list interesting – Good Hunting. |

1d RED IMPERFS
|
The following 14 lots represent a fantastic opportunity to add Reds from the Black Plates (plus the scarce Plate 18) to your collection. Several are from the Ken Statham Collection and these have been kept separate for identification purposes. All of them have been crossed referenced to the Imprimatur photo, the Nissen Plating Photographs (for all the Black Plates), the Brown Fisher measurement guide and Ken Statham's Essential Guide. As a consequence, we think that the plating is likely to be near enough 100% accurate. In addition, the collector has been very fair with his pricing, which has allowed us to: - 1.
Shows our valuation as well as the price for an individual
lot purchase 2.
Still leaving us room for a discount if you wished to
purchase more that one lot; 3. Allow a spread of payment by credit card for larger purchases. Hopefully this will be an attractive opportunity to add
some of the more difficult early plates to your collection. |

Early in 2006
we bought a very large lot of apparently plated material set out on album
pages and covering all Imperf Plates from 1 to 175. It quickly became clear that this collection had been put
together at a time when little written plating information was
available. We suspect that it was
late 60's early 70's and when the collector died it was passed to a relative
who kept it without adding to it. As
a consequence, some of the plating is not accurate, to a higher degree than
normal. However, because it was
collected when much more Imperfs were available, it not only contains some
very useful material such as States, but offers the possibility of further
interest through the likely misplating.
As usual, not all the stamps are perfect, but this is reflected in our
pricing.
The collection contained both the 1d and 2d values and the following 14 lots represent a good basis to work from on the 1d Red Imperfs. We show for each the catalogue value for the Plate offered and the unplated value for comparison. This ignores any "claimed" varieties, of which there are many, and help identification, and also enhance the unplated catalogue value. It looks completely unchecked for Distinctive Crosses. Large lots like this are difficult to come by so we hope you will enjoy this one. Please remember we give a
discount of at least 10% for the purchase of two or more lots. |

The following 8 lots of Unplated 1d Red Imperfs
with Maltese Cross come from some attempted reconstructions we recently
purchased. Majority are 3
to 4 margin with about 20% being perfect. Most of the others have slight faults but
still very presentable and platable.
Nowadays it is unusual to find such a quantity of Maltese Cross stamps
where little or no attempt has been made at plating. One further attraction to us was that it
is almost certain that no attempt has been made to identify the
Crosses, with very many interesting ones seen throughout. A new publication recently expanded the
potential for wider study, although at the moment the first part of the
publication deals with the A to L Districts and Towns. Set out on Black Hagner Pages, each lot
has its own separate description with little if any duplication amongst the
letterings listed in the description.
Have fun! |
